The new iPhones: the 18 Pro, and the first folding iPhone at over $2,000. Apple's stock rose 3.5% the day after. The chip inside is TSMC's.
Apple unveiled its autumn line on 9 September under new chief executive John Ternus: the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, and its first folding phone, the iPhone Duo, priced above $2,000, the highest price Apple has ever charged for a phone; the whole line got more expensive. The A20 Pro chip inside is built by TSMC on its 2-nanometre process. Apple closed at $315.42 on 9 September, rose 3.5% to $326.60 the next day and another 1.7% on 11 September, and closed at $335.58 on 18 September, up 24% this year and 1% below its 28 July high. TSMC is up 36% this year; Micron, the memory maker, 222%.
in plain EnglishApple showed its new phones this month. The headline product is its first folding iPhone, the Duo, which costs more than $2,000, the most Apple has ever asked for a phone, and the rest of the range got pricier too. Investors liked it: Apple's shares rose about 5% over the two days after the event and are now close to their all-time high, up about a quarter this year. The part to watch is not the phone but the chip inside it, made by TSMC in Taiwan on the most advanced process in the world. TSMC's shares are up 36% this year, and the memory-chip makers that supply every phone have done even better.
